To the bafflement of everyone in the room, he giggled. He actually giggled, like a little girl delighted by the news that a princess was coming to tea.

“Did you hear me, sir? Mr. President?”

“Yes, yes!” Fitzpatrick broke off his spurt of laughter and took a moment to visibly compose himself. “I heard you. You said, ‘A storm is coming. A storm of dragons.’ And all I could think to myself was, ‘Of course there is, cuz that’s the cherry on the crap sundae that has been this day. So what do we know about this… storm? Is that a euphemism or designation, like the name for a group of dragons, like instead of herd? Or what are we talking about?”

“Actually, sir,” the Secretary of Defense spoke up, “a group of dragons is referred to as a thunder, a thunder of dragons; our use of the term storm here, while coincidentally related, is purely symbolic. The term ‘storm’ was chosen due to the number, density, and destructive likelihood of this massive gathering of beasts which we’ve decided to call ‘dragons.’ Where they came from and what their origin is remains mysterious. As soon as we know more, you’ll know more.”

“So what do we know?” asked Fitzpatrick.

“At approximately oh seven thirty this morning, a swarm of what resemble dragons of eastern mythology appeared off the coast of West Virginia, headed inland at an alarming rater of speed, even giving our own navy a run for their money,” SecDef reported.

“Has it made landfall yet?”
